After 10 joyless digital pages, I have decided to switch back over to illustrating traditionally. I'm hoping this will expedite the process a little more. Now I just need to get a big enough scanner. Any suggestions?
I did this piece as a warm up--and mostly because I missed just drawing for fun. Remember that?

if you're scanning 11x17, the most affordable scanner is the brother mfc-6490CW. it's awesome as all hell: has a document feeder and is also and all-in-one printer too. And the quality of the scan is great. they pretty much have them in staples for around $300
Thanks so much, Carl! I will definitely check it out!
yes, jumbo scanner prices have dropped dramatically since I bought mine (ended up buying a microtek via Amazon, it has served me well).
and, yay RE going back to pen and paper...so nice.
I think I had looked into that one before...and was intimidated by price. I'll look into again. Thanks for the suggestion, Tim!
Ah, welcome back to the fold, Wolfboy. I tried my hand at digital inking but I pretty much hated it - give me a pencil and a brush any day of the week. Only downside - I've got tons of bristol board cluttering the place up. Gonna end up like Ditko: using it for draft exclusion, coasters etc.
Great pic, by the way - I love the rough stuff. Wait, that came out wrong...!
I had EXACTLY THE SAME experience - despite having all to best tools for digital inking (cintiq, manga studio, big mac ((and fries))) it was utterly joyless. So I went back to hand inking. Sometimes a pain, but always rewarding.
re: A3 Scanners. I second the brother - in fact, I bought mine a year ago, and did a write up review on my blog http://www.pauljholden.com/blog/2009/08/09/tools-of-the-trade-the-scanner/ Hope that's of some use (as an aside, I've been using dirt cheap third party ink carts for the past year - and never had a problem with them, well - except for one that was so dirt cheap it was broken when I got it)
