"BACK TO THE PAST: HORSERIDER SEQUENCE"

I thought it would be fun to post some key poses from one of the animation layout sequences I did for the HAUNTED HOUSE EPISODE of SAMURAI JACK...

This consequently was the episode I won an Annie Award for.

  1. Now we're talking! I've always wanted to see these! Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for posting them up, Andy!

I should ask... what kind of art direction did you get on this episode? Were you left to your own devices to come up with the look?

  3. Bloody hell, these are phenomenal. I've had a bit of an iffy day, creatively speaking, and these are a big inspiration to keep going on. The horse and rider in the second pic is just too much, man :)

  5. Thanks for the kind words, chaps!

As for for stylistic direction in this episode--it was sort of Genndy pushing my comic inking style more expressive, mixed with a little Lone Wolf and Cub Manga inspiration...and viola, the Demon Horse was created.
